Autumn News / III The Empress

Updated: Jan 1, 2022

What I love about the autumn is the feeling of a return inward. Life has slowed down from the energetic heat of summer. I feel as if I am able to breathe and pause differently in these chilly mornings, watching the fog rise from the water.

During these days I find it vital to feel my connection to the Earth. Even on cold days, finding time to sit outside, stare up at the sky, touch a tree. This connection allows this introspective mood of fall to move outward into the world, sharing our energy with the energy around us, instead of being a loop of information that I can get stuck in. These actions can take that inward-looking energy and allow it to move beyond the self, towards creating change and taking action. Even if that action is simply thanking the world for being.

In Tarot, the Empress card is that reminder for me. She reminds me to connect with my own divine feminine energy and to appreciate the divine feminine all around me. She is a card of nurturing and creativity and abundance. She can help us connect to our bodies, feeling our sensuality and physical earthly selves. She can remind us to practice gratitude for all we have, grounding us in the goodness and abundance of this life.

I am excited to be selling a limited number of prints of The Empress on my Etsy page. She is part of the Tarot deck I am collaborating on. I have chosen to show her as the Venus of Willendorf, a small limestone figurine that is around 25,000 years old, making it one of the oldest pieces of human created art we know of. I have painted her surrounded by orchids, magnolias, and hawthorn flowers, pieces of the natural world that symbolize beauty and love and strength. This is one of my favorite pieces I have done in some time and she has brought me a lot of strength hanging in my home. My husband Steve took this photo of me with the finished print, standing under our own magnolia tree, one of my favorite magic places.

I hope you are feeling your own creative abundance and energy with this full moon.

Wishing you joy,

Sophie
